Registrations are now open for the 2018 Open Studios event, the largest free art event of its kind in Australia.
Covering the Capes region from Busselton to Augusta, the two week event covers genres such as painting, printmaking, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, pottery, jewellery, photography, up cycling, glass blowing and fine furniture.
To be held in 2018 from the 28th April to the 13th May, the Open Studios event attracts approximately 35,000 visitations. Artists open up their own private studios, homes or galleries to the public, where the public can interact, see the artist working and purchase pieces direct.
Bill Castleden, Chair of MRROS said ‘The number and quality of the artists each year is growing and the event has now earned a reputation for promoting some of the top artists, and emerging ones, in the region.
The Open Studios event is quickly becoming one of the highlights of the art calendar and is gaining in popularity year on year. The event provides a platform for visitors, who may never have had the opportunity, to immerse themselves in a meaningful engagement with an artist. It’s also a unique experience engaging with the artist and seeing them in their actual studio and workplace. As the event expands, it provides a rich networking experience for regional artists, local commercial galleries, the tourism industry, accommodation providers and local government for the benefit of the whole community.’
